Original Caption: "'American Mother of 1939' At Home Mrs. Otelia Compton of Wooster, Ohio, was busy April 12 receiving congratulations upon her designation as 'American Mother of 1939' by the Golden Rule Foundation. On the mantle in her home may be seen the pictures of her late husband (center), Dr. Elias Compton of Wooster College, and three of her four children. She is the mother of Dr. Karl T. Compton of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Prof. Arthur H. Compton of the University of Chicago, and Mrs. Mary Compton Rice, a Presbyterian missionary."
