Original Caption: "For President . . . of the Alumni Association of the M.I.T., Francis A. Barrrett, '24, is the nominee chosen by the National Nominating Committee this year. Chairman of the midwinter alumni meetings in 1940 and 1941 and general chairman of Alumni Day 1940, Mr. Barrett is an active leader in alumni affairs. He is secretary of his Class and representative of his Class on the Alumni Council. Upon his graduation from the Institute, he joined the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company as an electrical engineer. After service in the plant, traffic, commercial and engineering departments, he became advertising manager of the company in 1931 and head of its publicity department in 1935. In 1932 and 1933, Mr. Barrett served as publicity director of the Greater Boston Community Fund; he was executive manager of the fund in the next year, and treasurer and member of the budget committee for the fund of 1935. He is a member of the Advertising Club of Boston and of the Technology Club of New York."
