Original caption: "Maurice Forbes (left) of 82 East Squantum Street, North Quincy, is shown being presented a 25-year pin (on Thursday February 17) at the M.I.T. Instrumentation Laboratory by the director of the Laboratory, Dr. C. Stark Draper (right). The M.I.T. Instrumentation Laboratory is engaged in the development of fire control and automatic navigation equipment, and Mr. Forbes has been instrumental in fabricating some of the first extremely precise components of a new miniature gyroscope that has been developed at the laboratory. Mr. Forbes was born in Leeds, England, and attended the West Leeds Technical School before coming to this country. Previous to his service at the Instrumentation Laboratory, Mr. Forbes worked in the Electrical Engineering Department at M.I.T., where he played an important part in the building of special mechanical devices that were used in conjunction with the Rockefeller Differential Analyzer; a highly specialized electro-mechanical computing device that was used to solve problems relating to the design of Airborne Fire Control systems for jet aircraft.
