Description

George Nickolas Hatsopoulos, left, and Joseph Kaye pose with a thermo-electron engine. Original caption: "Dr. George N. Hatsopoulos (left) and Dr. Joseph Kaye of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology hold a model of a new device they have invented for converting heat directly into electricity. Called a thermo-electron engine, the model operates without any mechanical moving parts and may be practical, the inventors believe, for many purposes including the more effective use of atomic energy in all power plants."
