They have just been given to M.I.T by the noted New York book collector, I Austin Kelly, III, (center) as a tribute to Professor William N. Locke (right), who retired as director of the M.I.T. Among the 27 books in the Kelly collection presented to M.I.T. are an illuminated Book of Hours, dating from the 15th Century; a page from the Gutenberg Bible, in perfect condition; a rare first issue of Tom Paine's Common Sense; and three books relating to George Washington, including one from his own library bearing his signature and a coat of arms."
