Original caption: "SWEET VICTORY // Of the seven victories (against two losses and a tie) chalked up by M.I.T.'s soccer team this year, two were particularly sweet. One win came against Amherst College, M.I.T.'s first over that school in 37 years. Another victory was over West Point, M.I.T.'s first against the cadets in a series of 19 games dating back to 1922. The season's record placed M.I.T. among the top soccer schools in New England. This year's captain was Dirk Berghagen ('62) of Monte Estoril, Portugal. Robert Mehrabian ('64) of Teharan, Iran, scored 13 goals for Tech to wind up the season as the leading scorer in the New England Soccer League. Herbert Nwagha ('63) of East Nigeria was elected captain of next year's team. One 1961 loss was to the Air Force Academy (5-1) in a game played at the Academy near Colorado Springs, Colo., more than a mile high in the Rocky Mountains. M.I.T. beat the Airmen at Cambridge a year ago, but an improved AFA plus all that altitude proved too much for the Techmen this year."
