Description

Black and white photograp of Kathy Palmer adjusting her skies.

Original caption 1: "Schuss! When skiers come hurtling down the slopes of Mount Tecumseh at Waterville Valley, N.H., March 24 in the annual Widner Memorial Trophy races, MIT's Kathy Palmer will be among them. Kathy, a secretary in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, is a certified C racer who spends her weekends sharpening her skill on skis. Kathy, 19, has been skiing for 14 years and has ribbons to show for it. She has raced as an individual, and, while in school, was a member of the Colby Junior College team in New London, N.H. In the Widner races last year, she placed second among the class C skiers. Her hopes are high for this year's Widner. Last fall, she spent three and a half days training on Mount Belknap, Laconia, N.H., under the famed Penny Pitou and her Austrian-born husband, Egon Zimmerman."

Original caption 2: "Kathy waxes her skis."

Used in: Tech Talk, March 13 1962.
