Black and white exterior view photograph of the Monadnock building from the corner of Jackson and Dearborn streets in Chicago. The building was designed by John Wellborn Root and Daniel Burnham.

Original Caption: "The Monadnock Building in Chicago, 1889-91 (Burnham and Root, architects) was the last tall building with masonry bearing walls, and was a peculiarly forceful expression of structure and functions which relies on simple geometric form for its effect."
