This was the second maser built. Its purpose was for beating with the first ammonia beam maser in order to examine the constancy of frequency. Gordon helped build the first maser and is now at Bell Telephone Laoratories. Wang also did early work with beam-type masers and is now in Red China. The picture was taken sometime in late 1954 or early 1955."
