Original caption: "The election of Thomas J. Watson, Jr. (shown above), President of International Business Machines Corporation, as a special term member of the Corporation, was also announced on March 22. His membership will be for a term of five years beginning July 1. Mr. Watson, a native of Dayton, Ohio, and a graduate of Brown University, has been associated with I.B.M. since 1937, except for military service during World War II. He was promoted from executive vice-president to president and director of I.B.M. in 1952, and holds numerous important industrial and educational posts."
