Description

A woman sits with five very small kittens on a piece of equipment in front of her; the mother cat looks warily from a cardboard box.

Original caption:

"NO CLEARANCE NECESSARY

She wanted to get in and she kept trying, but each time the guards found her and threw her out again. Finally someone said, "She's sick and we've got to do something about her," and she was carefully admitted into the tight security confines of the Instrumentation Lab.

It was immediately apparent why she didn't feel good, and quick preparations were made. The keypunch room was re-named "Maternity Ward -- keep door tightly closed." A box was found and lined with paper toweling. IGgy -- for inertial gyro -- climbed in and produced her family, five kittens. Through the weekends, Instrumentation guards included IG and her family on their regular rounds.

Temporarily boarded with a sympathetic friend, the cat family is looking for new homes and new names. For the time being, they are being called 2C, 6F, 9F, 10H, and 11J in honor of some of the gyros developed by the hospitable Instrumentation group.

Tech Talk is running its first contest to supply good names and help out with finding new homes for the kittens and IG. If your family needs a kitten, enter as many names as you like, and you may be a lucky winner. To help out with names, two kittens are female tigers with white paws. The other three are male, black and white: a pair of twins all black with white paws and fronts, and a clown with a part white face. IGgy is a long-haired grey-blue cat with a friendly disposition. The kittens look as if they will be long-haired too.

All entries must be recieved in the Tech Talk office (Room 5-211) by August 1, and must include your name, extension and room number. IG and her kittens will be ready to go to new homes on August 5. One kitten has already been promised to an Instrumentation friend."
