Description

In this high-speed photograph takenin 1940, Victoria Zacchini flies through the air toward a safety net 175 feet from the cannon. Below her, Papa Zacchini had activated the spring-loaded propelling mechanism, as well as the cosmetic black powder charge, by depressing a plunger. Two large reflectors housing powerful flash-tubes were necessary to illuminate the action. (from "Stopping Time" (1987), pp. 74-75). (CC)
