Apple Drop

Contact us about this object

Description

To demonstrate the effects of gravity, specifically the acceleration of all falling objects, Edgerton inevitably recalled the legend of Sir Isaac Newton sitting under the aple tree. An assistant obligingly dropped a large Delicious apple for the strobe, firing at an even 60 flashes per second, to trace its increasingly rapid trajectory in this multiflash picture. (from "Stopping Time" (1987), p. 114). (CC)
