Contact us about this object

Description

Shipbuilder's lift model from Luther Briggs's shipyard at the Brick Kilns in Pembroke, MA, showing a vessel with a bluff bow, nearly plumb stem, and square stern. Model consists of six pine lifts held together with two wedges, which have holes for hanging the model.

Half-models like these were used to design ships, usually in lieu of drawn plans, and as records of ship design for later construction.
