Fully rigged model of the US naval brig Argus. The sold hull has a bluff bow, heavy, raised wale strakes, and a square stern. The rig consists of two masts, both carrying square sails, and a sharply angled bowsprit. Deck furniture includes brass cannons and spare spars. The model is finished with varnish and painted to resemble green copper below the waterline.
The Argus was built in Boston for the US Navy in 1803. She was built to protect US shipping interests in the Mediterranean and was later captured by the British during the War of 1812.
