Contact us about this object

Description

Fully rigged model of the British revenue cutter Basilisk. The planked hull shows typical early 19th century British construction, including a full bow with a prominent stempost, modest sheer, deep keel and wide, square stern. The model has a huge sloop rig with a single mast, square sails above a gaff main, and a long, retractable bowsprit. Deck contains brass guns, water pumps, and other details. The model is finished with varnish, with buff paint below the waterline.

The Basilisk was a Vigilant-class cutter commissioned by the British Navy in 1823. The rig was later modified to a ketch.
