Description

Fully rigged model of the 32-gun frigate Raleigh. The planked hull has a full bow with pronounced tumblehome, a long, raised foredeck and quarterdeck, and stern galleries on either side of the square stern. The rig consists of three masts with yards for square sails on each. Model is finished in varnish, with paint resembling copper below the waterline.

The US frigate Raleigh was commissioned by the Continental Congress in 1775 and launched in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1776. She was captured by the British off the coast of Maine in 1778.
