Description

Fully rigged model of the 1776 gondola 'Philadelphia,' a flat-bottomed, wide-bodied gunboat with a single, square-rigged mast. The model is finished in plain wood with deck furniture, rigging, three large guns and eight swivel guns in place. Most pieces designed to move at full scale are functional. Two square sails are set on the mast, which is topped with an early US flag. Model is mounted on a wooden base.

The gunboat 'Philadelphia' was a gondola (or gundalow) built on Lake Champlain in 1776 for the Revolutionary War. The original was sunk in battle shortly after completion.
