Mayflower
Description
Full hull model of the racing fishing schooner 'Mayflower.' The model is of solid construction, showing the hull with stump spars but no other fittings or details. It is painted black above the waterline and red below, and mounted with four supports on a flat wooden base.
The 'Mayflower' was built in Essex, Massachusetts in 1921 by J.F. James & Son. She was designed by W. Starling Burgess to compete for the International Fisherman's Cup Race that year, as well as fishing on the Grand Banks. Sparmaker Fred Pigeon, of the Pigeon Hollow Spar Company, bankrolled the project.
