
Azimuth circle

Description
Instrument, Angle measuring: for transfer of observed horizontal plane. (generally used with plane table). Consists of disc with two craduated circles between which is marked in spaces of 45 degrees, the Italian designations for cardinal and intercardinal points of the compass. Upon this base are arranged four diopters (one missing) and straightedge parallel to sight line of one set of diopters and extending beyond edge of base plate. Compass box in center marked with N-S line fixed in relation to base. Instrument well built, not of great accuracy; simply ornamented by piercing and mediocre engraving. Lettering of circles of better quality but division inaccurate.
