Description

Construction plan for a Revolutionary-era whaleboat recreated by William A. Baker for the Darien Historical Society in the 1970s. Two boats were built to these plans in 1977: the whaleboat "Middlesex" in Darien, Connecticut, and "Henry Scudder" in Huntington, New York.

This plan shows construction details for a framed boat with lapstrake planking. The right half of the plan has elevations showing timber framing from the top and sides, as well as a separate drawing showing external planking. A transverse section showing planking is on the left. Scantlings, detailing the dimensions of various components, are in the upper right.
