Description

The Great Electric Car Race was a 1968 cross-country race between student groups at MIT and Caltech. The MIT students, driving a modified 1968 Chevrolet Corvair, began in Cambridge with a destination in Pasadena, CA, while Caltech’s group, in a 1958 Volkswagen bus, traveled the opposite direction. Although the MIT group arrived in Pasadena first, they were towed for part of the journey, and the Caltech group, which arrived in Cambridge a day later (but under its own power), was declared the winner.
