The eight-story office building is located at a prominent corner lot against the end of along row of older buildings and with its wide façade facing the broad Kufürstendamm avenue. The building site is an incredibly narrow 8 feet (2.5 meters) wide. The city allowed the building to hang over the sidewalk and to be taller than the surrounding structures. Helmut Jahn and Zaha Hadid were among the five architects invited by Peter Schansky to submit a design for the site. The invited competition was originally won by Hadid, but the structures and geometries she proposed were beyond the capacity of the budget. The commission then went to Jahn.
