Various elements of the scene are labelled with letters A-E; there is a Latin caption below the image explaining them. The four winds, personified, are blowing in a stormy sky. The sail and rigging are shown twisting and coiling in the wind and the waves are rimmed in front; in the water are three beasts with the tails of fishes and what appear to be the heads of crows; this may be the artists' attempt at whales. All but one of the disciples are bearded; their facial expressions are rendered in great detail.
