Description

Albert F. Bird (center) and marine architecture professor George Owen (right) hold up The Flying Cloud, a ship model built by Bird, which won him a scholarship to MIT in 1926. Another unnamed man stands on the left. Original caption: "Albert F. Bird, 18-year-old Somerville youth, is holding The Flying Cloud, the ship model which won him a four-year course at M.I.T. At the right is George Owen, Proffessor [sic] of Marine Architecture. The scholarship has been established by the youth's companion." Used in: Boston Herald Traveler, Oct. 8, 1926.
