Black and white photograph that has been mounted onto another photograph, exposing a man's figure at left. In the actual photograph are Albert F. Bird holding the model boat he designed that has earned him a scholarship at MIT. George Owen, Professor of Marine Architecture, is posed with him. Original caption: "Albert R. Bird, 16-year-old Somerville youth, is holding the Flying Cloud, the ship model which won him a four-year course at M. I. T. At the right is George Owen, professor of marine architecture.
