Description

Large evaporating dish with a round bottom, a spout, and a flat handle with a small hole at its end.

Evaporating dishes are common in chemistry laboratories, where they are used to evaporate excess solvents in a solution to concentrate it or to reduce it to its solid precipitate. This object was used by the MIT Chemistry Department until it was donated to the museum in 1978.
