Biography from firm materials:
Jean Hermann is an architect with extensive experience in the technical coordination of projects during the design, construction documents and construction administration phases. Her work includes parks and public spaces; retail, commercial and industrial buildings; and single and multi-family residences for public and private clients. It encompasses new construction, adaptive re-use and historic renovation and has involved working with many local, state and federal funding agencies.
In addition, Ms. Hermann was Project Manager through design and construction on Rockefeller Park and Stuyvesant Esplanade in Battery Park City, NY and Jeep Jones Park in Boston, MA. She has been an integral part of teams that have designed and overseen the construction of a restaurant and offices in Cambridge, MA and the Boston Yacht Haven and Marina, Commercial Wharf in Boston, MA. She has been involved with the program development and subsequent design and construction of the residential units for a resort in St. Lucia, West Indies.
Ms. Hermann's work has included parks on the Charles River: Revere Landing Park in Charlestown, MA and North Point Park in Cambridge, MA, (both for the Metropolitan District Commission with involvement of the Central Artery/Tunnel management), as well as projects on New York City's East River: the East River Bikeway and Esplanade, and Stuyvesant Cove for the New York Economic Development Corporation. Both the Revere Landing Park and North Point Park were sited on contaminated sites, requiring the coordination of remediation measures into the design of the parks. She also managed the South Garden and Streetscape at the Prudential Center in Boston, MA through the challenges of building over an existing, operating garage.
Before joining Carr, Lynch, and Sandell, Ms. Hermann worked with firms in Palo Alto, California and the Boston area on projects have included the adaptive reuse of mill, industrial and hotel buildings in Connecticut and Massachusetts; new construction of housing for the elderly in Massachusetts; truck terminals and maintenance facilities in many states; bookstores and restaurants in Massachusetts and Connecticut; a public library in Massachusetts; office space planning in California and Massachusetts; a new museum in South Carolina; and private residences and vacation homes in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine and New Jersey.
Ms. Hermann received a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design from the University of Connecticut. She is a registered architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Ms. Hermann has been involved with the Boston Architectural Center in various roles. She has served as a thesis advisor, a thesis expert, a juror for a scholarship award program, and as a member of the Thesis Committee. She has also volunteered her time to South Shore Habitat for Humanity.
