Vessel was a development of the KAISER WILHELM DER GROSSE. During World War I this vessel became a raider but was weak in armorment and eventually put into Newport News for protection in April 13, 1915. Her engines had been wrecked by her crew prior to entry into the War. The United States took the vessel. She was renamed USS VON STUBEN and used as a transport. After the war she was not worth rebuilding and eventually broken up.
