Description

1/5 scale model of the revenue cutter 'Manning,' built for MIT's Department of Naval Architecture to conduct resistance experiments in the Charles River. The model was powered by a 12 horsepower electric motor and a gasoline generator.

'Froude' was modeled on the 'Manning' because MIT Professor Cecil H. Peabody had conducted similar, full-scale tests on the 'Manning' in 1899.
