Description

HMCo Note: "High speed launch. Lapstrake planking" Designed and built for himself, N. G. Herreshoff used the boat as test against the fast advancing new power technology of internal combustion engines. According to L. F. Herreshoff, in 1904, Swiftsure took part in the last racing between steam and gasolene powered boats. Swiftsure was beaten by the 60 foot, 200 horsepower Standard, with just over a mile per hour higher average speed, and later in another race by Vinget-et-un, just at the finish with average speeds of 25.6 statue miles per hour.
