The Ernestina (ex. Effie M. Morrissey) was built in 1894 at the James & Tarr Shipyard in Essex, Massachusetts. First named Effie M. Morrissey, the schooner worked the Grand Banks cod fishery until the 1920s. She subsequently made scientific expeditions to the Arctic and, renamed Ernestina, carried passengers and freight between the United States and the Cape Verde Islands. The vessel was restored in Cape Verde in 1978 and given to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
